Sugar Island started off as a small business located in Pineville, Missouri. It featured an 11-acre primitive camping ground with public restrooms.
Having around 60 canoes Sugar Island started providing canoe rental services for customers in the late 1970’s.
Ed Ables, the owner of Sugar Island, started the business with the intent to keep Sugar Island family oriented. Throughout the years Sugar Island has maintained Ed Ables’ goal. Sugar Island is a fun safe place for families to come an experience the great Ozarks of Missouri.
Throughout the years Sugar Island has gained a lot of customers and has developed to meet the needs of those customers. Now, Sugar Island features an 11 acre campground with electrical hook-ups, a small store in which customers can buy anything from camping gear to hot showers, and over 100 canoes and kayaks available for rent.

Big Rock park features one of the best swimming holes on Big Sugar as well as great picnic and camping areas.
